Waiting Mode Override

“I have an appointment at 4 PM, so I can’t do anything at 10 AM.” This is not laziness. This is your brain holding a time slot open in RAM because it doesn’t trust you to remember it.

Waiting Mode is a safety mechanism. To override it, you must prove to your nervous system that the event is contained and the alarm is set.
01
The Unlock Sequence
Three steps to free your RAM from the event. Each step proves to your nervous system that the time is safe to release.
Step 01 — Define

Find “Go Time”

The event time (2:00 PM) is irrelevant. You need the “Go Time” — the moment you must leave.

Event: 2:00 PM
Travel: 30m
Prep: 30m
GO TIME: 1:00 PM
Step 02 — Offload

Trust The Device

You are holding the time in your head. Stop it. Make the phone hold it instead.

Set Alarm for Go Time.
Label it “LEAVE NOW”.
Permission to forget granted.
Step 03 — Engage

Safe Mode Tasks

You cannot start a “Deep Work” project. You need tasks you can interrupt instantly.

Laundry (Stop anytime).
Emails (Low focus).
Video games (If casual).
02
Prohibited Actions
These actions will destroy the protocol. Your nervous system cannot handle them while holding a time slot.

Do Not Nap

Sleep inertia will make you miss the Go Time. Resting your eyes is risky. Stay vertical.

Do Not Hyperfocus

Do not start a new coding project or craft that requires flow state. You will not hear the alarm.

Print the override sheet and fill it out before your waiting period begins.

Note: Waiting Mode is not procrastination. It is your nervous system protecting you from the catastrophe of being late. Once you prove the event is contained, you are free.
